FOUR

Click on any article title to edit that article. The text editor used in Joomla is much like a common word processing application. Place your cursor where you want the image to appear by clicking in that position within the editor.

FIVE

To add an image click on the tree icon. The following pop up screen will appear:

The image details are displayed in the top half of the pop-up window and the image select area is shown below. You can select an image that is already on your server (in the media manager) by simply clicking on it. The image details with a thumbnail will be shown to the right of the screen. The other image settings will be show in the top half of the pop-up. Click Insert if you wish to insert that image into your article.

A few notes on image properties:

Image properties can be edited in the image edit pop-up under the title Article Image. All the areas are automatically completed for you once you have selected an image but the following setting can be altered:

Description and Title: These two settings are great for search engine optimisation as they tell the search engine what the image is about. Create short and keyword appropriate descriptions and titles for all your images.

Dimensions: You can change the image dimensions or size here. It is a bad idea however to use these settings to alter the image size as the quality and download speed are badly affected. rather change the dimensions to what you need before you upload your images.

V space and H space: This is the vertical and horizontal space between the image and any other image or text. It allows us to keep things nice and neat by not having text right up against the image. the distance is measured in pixels and 5 is generally a good setting.

Alignment: The main choices for you to use here are default, left or right. if you set the image alignment to left or right you allow text to run smoothly around the image. Default will have the text stop above the image and below it with no wrap around. The image will also generally align to the centre.

Border: Tick the box next to border and make its width 0. This will prevent blue borders being diplayed around your images if they have a link put on them.

SIX

Click the Save or Apply toolbar button to save your article. You may need to scroll to the top of the screen to see the toolbar.

The Save toolbar button will save your changes and return you to the Article Manager screen.

The Apply button will save your changes but leave you in the Article Edit screen.
